It’s that time of year when the air is getting cooler and
the morning dew is getting thicker. The
heat of Summer is subsiding and Fall is at our doorstep. With highs in the 80’s and lows nearing the
50’s, shorts and tank tops are no longer the necessity and flip flops to do the
morning chores make for some cold wet feet.
So this morning I decided it was time to dust off the rain boots…the
perfect solution to this cool damp problem.
After inspecting for spiders within the boots I slipped my
bare feet in and went on my way. Most
mornings you would still see me in shorts after running but today I had errands
to run. I needed to ensure that the
bottom of my jeans didn’t get wet and covered with grass clippings.
Every morning the chickens are waiting for me to toss their
food into their yard and the goats start bleating as soon as they see me step
outside. They have been spoiled with a
handful of sweet feed every day despite the fact that they don’t need it. They have plenty of food in the field,
especially after this very wet August!

I suppose the rain boots (maybe I should call them Dew Boots) will now sit by the back door ready
for use every morning. I will trade my
flip flops for boots just long enough to get the chores done and then revert
back to my flops. As I sit here thinking
about all of this, I believe it is time to get the kids some new rain boots
that fit. They go visit the goats every
morning before school. Such beloved
goats…they don’t know how good they have it!
My Take-Aways:
- Enjoy the change of seasons. Embrace the dew on the ground even if it makes the grass clippings stick to your feet. Or just go get your rain boots. They make life easy.
- Take time to look at nature. To truly see the details of the things God has given us. A drop of water on a blade of grass may not seem like much, but there is beauty in it. The sun glistening across the dew laden grass untouched by the busy world around us…so peaceful.
- Let the kids get a little messy. Sure their feet get wet and grassy from running through the yard, but it is just one of many ways they can experience nature at its finest…whether they realize it or not.
